June Van Klaveren is the enthusiastic author of two children’s picture books! She is also a wife, mother, quilter, gardener, reader, artist, pianist, crocheter, prayer shawl maker, cook, seamstress, dog trainer, cruiser, pet owner, entrepreneur, singer, lover of animals, baby cuddler, rock painter and super woman. (Well, “super woman” is an exaggeration!)
She does her best writing in her home office accompanied by her cockatiel singing just for inspiration. She, her husband Larry, dog Ruby and cockatiel Ricky call St. Louis, MO home.
As a child growing up rather isolated on an Iowa farm, June Van Klaveren spent many days outside playing with creatures she found.
In her professional career, she helped pest control companies market their services. Combining her love of insects and her love of children, she wrote Me & Smugg the Bug. A Story of an Unlikely Friendship to help children understand that friendship and acceptance of those different from us is vital.
The Antics of Carrot, the Ferret came about as she recalled the ferret her son owned as a teenager that kept the whole family laughing!
A graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College, June’s interests in education and communication continued in her writing.
She is also the author of The Edge Up – a customer service book for small and home-based businesses and Prayers for Parents – and has been an editorial contributor to several publications. June was instrumental in the development of an educational program called “Good Bug/Bad Bug” and presented it to several St. Louis area elementary schools and sold it throughout the U.S.
